China Online Payment Market Topped CNY1trn Last Year
BEIJING, Feb 10, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The Chinese online payment market reached CNY 360.25 billion in the fourth quarter of 2010, rising 24% from a quarter earlier. The figure amounted to CNY 1.0858 trillion in the full year, jumping 96%, according to the latest report by Analysys International.
Analysts point out that third-party payment service providers formed special teams for business expansion in the fields of aviation, insurance and fund, since the People's Bank of China (PBC) decided to grant them licenses and allow them to join super online banking system.
Besides, the e-commerce market experienced robust growth last year and online shopping platforms kicked off large-scale promotions, which boosted the transaction value of third-party payment service providers.
Earlier, on December 23, 2010, Analysys International predicted in a report that the Chinese online payment market would reach CNY 1.071 trillion in the full year, leaping 93%. Meanwhile, the market research firm believed that third-party payment service providers qualified by the PBC would kick off mergers and acquisitions to reshuffle the whole market.

Fed: WA government and traditional owners sign off on gas hub

Fed: WA government and traditional owners sign off on gas hub
PERTH, April 27 AAP - The Kimberley Land Council (KLC) has signed off on an in-principle
agreement to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) precinct near Broome.
In a ceremony at the James Price Point site, 60km north of the tourist centre, federal
Resources Minister Martin Ferguson joined West Australian Premier Colin Barnett, Woodside
chief Don Voelte and KLC chief executive officer Wayne Bergmann for the signing of the
heads of agreement.
Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett has said a number of important steps remain
before the hub gains any final approval, and a full environmental impact assessment will
not be completed until next year.
Mr Barnett said the broad agreement marked the start of heritage, environmental and
social impact studies within the James Price Point area.
"Today was the first time that all parties stood on country together, providing an
opportunity to look back at the hard work involved in achieving this agreement and to
look toward the next phase of development," he said.
"The government will work with traditional owners through the KLC to identify the exact
location of the precinct, develop an indigenous land use agreement and involve them in
the design and construction of the precinct.
"The agreement by the traditional owners is an historic moment for the Kimberley, for
Western Australia and for Australia.
"This is a significant step forward in terms of economic self determination and an
improvement in the living standards of the Aboriginal people of the Kimberley.
"It may also become part of a milestone along the way to reconciliation across Australia."
Mr Bergmann said the signing had been hosted by the Goolarabooloo Jabirr Jabirr Native
Title Claim Group, who voted on April 15 to enter into the heads of agreement.
He said it put in place a process for the traditional owners to work with the state
government and Woodside on developing the project.
"Traditional owners will not give final approval for the project until essential cultural
heritage and environmental studies are completed and provide satisfactory clearance of
these issues," he said.
"Standing here today with the state government and Woodside shows us how far indigenous
people have come in the 30 years since the Noonkanbah dispute (when) a multinational company
and the state government ignored what little rights indigenous people had."
A Broome-based environment group, Environs Kimberley, said the environmental impact
on threatened species meant the development would have to be scrapped, despite the signing
of the agreement.
"The massive blasting and dredging of millions of tonnes of reef and seagrass for a
five-kilometre breakwater and industrial port would be an environmental disaster for marine
life off the internationally significant Kimberley coast," the group said in a statement.

Cyc: Youngsters step up in teams pursuit
By Roger Vaughan
BEIJING, Aug 16 AAP - Jack Bobridge and Mark Jamieson are suddenly pivotal members
of the Australian teams pursuit squad as they prepare to defend their Olympic title in
track cycling.
Brett Lancaster has struggled for form since the Tour de France and fellow Athens gold
medallist Brad McGee has intimated his ninth in the individual pursuit last night might
be his last Olympic competition.
That means Bobridge, 19, and Jamieson, 24, will be doing a lot more at their Olympic
debuts than just gaining experience.
The teams pursuit will start tomorrow with qualifying and the first round of racing.
"We've got two young kids in Mark Jamieson and Jack Bobridge who've really stepped
up - it hasn't hurt our chances too much," said track endurance coach Ian McKenzie after
he confirmed Lancaster would not ride the teams pursuit.
A few days ago, before it became clear McGee and Lancaster were not at their top form,
Bobridge had made his ambition clear.
"My goal early on in the year was just to get to the world titles, let alone get to
the Olympics," he said.
"My goal (in Beijing) would definitely have to be to win, obviously, or to medal, but
a lot of (my goals), being so young, would be to get all the experience for London coming
up.
"I can normally handle the nerves pretty well, so it will be interesting to see how
it all unfolds."
Bobridge comes from a strong South Australian cycling family and is highly-rated for
his maturity and dedication.
The first-year senior rider, a two-time junior world champion, first emerged in March
at the world titles when he rode solidly in team pursuit qualifying.
Australia went on to finish third in the event as Great Britain set a world record
and Denmark was second.
Australia have a long-standing rivalry with the British in this event, beating them
for the Athens gold medal.
This will be one of Australia's best medal chances in track cycling at the Olympics.
Also tomorrow, the men's and women's sprint competitions start.
Australia Anna Meares will make an improbable quest for an Olympic medal, after a race
crash in January left her just millimetres from permanent spinal damage.
Meares fractured a disc in her neck, but she has made an astonishing recovery.
If she wins a medal, it will be one of the great stories of these Games.
Defending champion Ryan Bayley and probably Mark French will contest the men's sprint.

NSW: Abattoir drivers left in limbo: TWU
SYDNEY, Aug 14 AAP - Cowra Abattoir truck drivers are making their deliveries unsure
if they will be paid, as the plant heads towards administration.
The Transport Workers Union (TWU) has accused the abattoir in central western NSW of
giving the drivers their usual loads while knowing administrators were expected to take
over later today.
The TWU says the drivers were yet to be informed whether the company intended to pay
them for today's work.
"These hard working and loyal truck drivers are now doing their jobs wondering whether
they have a future, or a pay cheque, to take home to their families at the end of this
week," TWU national leader Tony Sheldon said today.
"The abattoir management yesterday allowed the drivers to pick up their loads as normal
and begin their deliveries.
"It is likely they did this with the knowledge they would this morning be locking out
their workers.
"The TWU will not allow the abattoir to let these drivers go to work today and not be paid."
The TWU will request an urgent meeting with any administrator of the abattoir to discuss
the individual concerns of the drivers and how their jobs can be saved.
Mr Sheldon also said it was critical to find out whether the trucks currently on the
road were still insured.
Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union NSW secretary Charlie Donzow said workers
had turned up for a meeting about the plant's future at 12pm (AEST) today but were told
to go home because the administrators were late.
The meeting has been rescheduled to later today, Mr Donzow said.
The abattoir declined to comment on the issue when contacted this morning.

MALAYSIAN WEBSITES LACK EDUCATIONAL CONTENTS SAYS ISP.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 Asia Pulse - The number of Malaysia websites is growing but many seem to lack good educational contents, said Mimos Bhd's president and chief executive officer, Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen.
"We noted something is missing, not very strong in education contents," he said at a press conference today in conjunction with the soft launch of the second my awards.
There are some 4,000 of Malaysia's hosted and owned websites.
He said readily available education material would be useful to web users.
Mimos Bhd is the first and biggest ISP in the country.
Referring to netpreneurs, he said, many were reluctant to develop educational site given the huge potential that it could gain and its attractiveness.
Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman noted that younger people kept looking for educational materials.
He said firms may not want to venture into education sites as there was no business model as yet.
He, however, believed the business or revenue model of education site could be discovered at "some stage" but it needed to be developed first.
"Those who think about education should try. Don't assume that there is a business model. Nobody has it and no one can tell you how the business model looks like. You have to go in and try," he said.
On the second my awards, Dr Tengku Azzman said similar award categories like the ones last year, would be given this year.
They include most popular website, most creative web design, best community development website, best internet application website and internet application website.
Apart from showing recognition, the my awards created by Mimos, helped to unearth the wealth of local talents on the Internet scene.
Malaysia national news agency Bernama website (www.bernama.com) won the commercial website category event last year.
This year's award presentation will be held in November.

Reader horrified to hear poor Aaetree manAAE ridiculed in phone-in.
Provided by 7DAYS.ae
I really was horrified to be unlucky enough to accidentally tune into Virgin Radio this afternoon (Tuesday 26th) when Kris Fade, decided that it would make entertaining radio to throw a comedic spin on the unfortunate plight of Dede Koswara, the gentleman suffering from a terrible skin condition that has left the majority of his body riddled with bark like warts. As if it isn't enough to be dubbed "the tree man" Kris thought it would be amusing to encourage the public to call in with suggestions of what advantages there might be to actually being a "tree" man. I won't dignify the crassness by mentioning some of the suggestions made, and besides I soon turned off the dreadful show.I wonder if Kris Fade would still make the jokes if the "tree man" were a member of his family or someone else he cared about or even knew.I very much doubt he would.Really, really poor show and furthermore, I would I have expected a professional radio entertainer to be able to come up with something better; there is plenty of more tasteful material out there.
