NSW: School evacuated after petrol spill

SYDNEY, April 7 AAP - A northern NSW public school has been evacuated after a petrol
tanker rolled and spilt up to 1,000 litres of fuel nearby.

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) says the tanker rolled at Gilgai, near Inverell, shortly
before 2pm (AEST) today.

The RFS, the NSW Fire Brigades, police and ambulance personnel are at the scene.

A NSW Fire Brigades spokesman said between 500 and 1,000 litres of unleaded petrol
and 500 litres of diesel have escaped from the tanker at Schwenkes Lane, near the Inverell-Bundarra
Road.

The nearby Gilgai Public School, which is understood to have 29 students, has been
evacuated as a precaution, he said.

The spokesman said the tanker has now been sealed with foam and the situation seems
"under control".

There are no reports of injury.
