MALAYSIAN WEBSITES LACK EDUCATIONAL CONTENTS SAYS ISP.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 Asia Pulse - The number of Malaysia websites is growing but many seem to lack good educational contents, said Mimos Bhd's president and chief executive officer, Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen.

"We noted something is missing, not very strong in education contents," he said at a press conference today in conjunction with the soft launch of the second my awards.

There are some 4,000 of Malaysia's hosted and owned websites.

He said readily available education material would be useful to web users.

Mimos Bhd is the first and biggest ISP in the country.

Referring to netpreneurs, he said, many were reluctant to develop educational site given the huge potential that it could gain and its attractiveness.

Dr Tengku Mohd Azzman noted that younger people kept looking for educational materials.

He said firms may not want to venture into education sites as there was no business model as yet.

He, however, believed the business or revenue model of education site could be discovered at "some stage" but it needed to be developed first.

"Those who think about education should try. Don't assume that there is a business model. Nobody has it and no one can tell you how the business model looks like. You have to go in and try," he said.

On the second my awards, Dr Tengku Azzman said similar award categories like the ones last year, would be given this year.

They include most popular website, most creative web design, best community development website, best internet application website and internet application website.

Apart from showing recognition, the my awards created by Mimos, helped to unearth the wealth of local talents on the Internet scene.

Malaysia national news agency Bernama website (www.bernama.com) won the commercial website category event last year.

This year's award presentation will be held in November.
